Conditions Treated
HUNTINGTON’S DISEASE
Huntington's disease is a progressive neurological condition caused by the inheritance of an altered gene. It results in damage to neurons in the brain resulting in a variety of physical, emotional and cognitive symptoms. These may include involuntary movements, jerking or twitching movements, reduced coordination, difficulties walking, speech and swallowing difficulties, muscle stiffness, balance deficits, depression, personality changes, fatigue, and difficulty sequences tasks.
These symptoms can appear at any time but typically present in 30–50-year-olds. Unfortunately, there is no cure for HD but medication and physiotherapy can help ease symptoms and improve quality of life.
