What to Expect
Call us on 9803 7755 to book an appointment
If you have more detailed questions about your condition or what to expect, one of our vestibular or concussion physiotherapists will be happy to talk to you over the phone before booking your first appointment.
1. Contact our office to book an appointment.
The first step is to contact our friendly administration team. We accept referrals over the phone or via email, directly or through a referrer. Our admin team will want to know some information about your vestibular condition or your concussion. They may have questions about funding as we provide services to third parties such as the TAC, sporting clubs and others. You do not need a referral to attend our clinic, but the admin team will give you information on the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan through Medicare to see if that is something you can apply for.
The admin team will explain what to expect at your first appointment. If you have specific questions that are more clinical in nature, they will hand you over to a clinician or get one to call you back to answer these. Generally, the vestibular and concussion assessments occur at one of our three locations.
Generally initial vestibular and concussion assessments are with one of our specially trained physiotherapists. At times we conduct combined initial concussion assessments with the physiotherapist and the exercise physiologist, but you will be aware of this at the time of booking. There is a significant amount of time taken to listen to your symptoms and history followed by a physical assessment. Your condition will be treated at the time and then a home program will be provided if indicated. You may only require one appointment, or we may recommend a period of rehabilitation for weeks to months. This will be communicated to you at the end of your initial appointment.
Your family and support system are important so if you would like them to attend the first appointment, they are very welcome. At times, patients can feel symptomatic with the initial vestibular and concussion assessments. If you find you do get stirred up it might be worthwhile having someone drive you to the assessment, so you don’t have to drive home. With your consent the clinician will send correspondence to your referrer and medical team about your presentation, findings and proposed management.
