VESTIBULAR SERVICES
The vestibular system is a highly complex system. It is a large contributor to our ability to balance. The system comprises of a small apparatus in the inner ear that communicates closely with the eyes and the brain. Some refer to the system as our ‘internal GPS’ in that it gives us information on where we are in space. The vestibular ocular reflex (VOR) is a reflex between our eyes and inner ear and is responsible for keeping our vision stable when we are in a state of motion. It also is responsible for holding us in an upright position against gravity.
There can be many different reasons for the cause of dizziness, including a problem in the inner ear, the brain, the connection between the two, the neck or something from another part of the body. At Neurological Rehabilitation Group we understand the complexity of vestibular disorders and the need to have a skilled team in this space. We work closely with many specialist neurologists, ear nose and throat surgeons and audiologists, from regular journal clubs to discuss best practice management, to working together for some clients to ensure holistic care.
