Fitness class:
Our group fitness classes are a great way to exercise in a social setting whilst still working to achieve your individual goals. Our fitness class participants each have their tailored exercise program that is developed based on your physio and/or exercise physiology assessment and goals. During the 50-minute class, each participant completes their own program whilst also having the opportunity to socialise with other participants in the group. Classes are run by our exercise physiologists. Prior to attending the group a 1:1 assessment with the group therapist is required. Reviews are also completed on a 3-4 monthly basis to review your progress and develop your program.
Ataxia class:
The ataxia classes are tailored classes that are specifically designed for people with ataxia. The class focuses on exercises specific to the patient’s needs, including coordination and balance exercises, global strengthening and functional exercises. The 50-minute classes are run by our physiotherapists. Exercising in a group setting is fun and social, and a great way to meet other people who also have ataxia. Prior to attending the group, an initial assessment will occur to assess your physical capacity and discuss your goals. Reviews are also completed on a 3-4 monthly basis to review your progress and goals.
Parkinson’s group:
Our Parkinson’s groups are tailored classes that are specifically designed for people with Parkinson’s disease. There is growing evidence demonstrating that specific exercises can slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease and that exercise can also have a positive effect on movement and symptoms. The 50-minute classes are run by our physiotherapists and exercise physiologists who all have a passion for Parkinson’s disease. Exercising in a group setting is fun and social, and a great way to meet other people who also have Parkinson’s disease.
Prior to attending the group an initial assessment will occur to assess your physical capacity, set up an exercise plan (home program, gym, in clinic) and discuss your goals. If you are appropriate for the group class; you will then be referred for a group assessment to a suitable class. Reviews are also completed on a 3-4 monthly basis to review your progress and goals.
Running group:
Our running group is a class focussed on those who would like to return to running. This may be running 5kms, or just being able to run across the street. The class focuses on functional exercises and strengthening to optimise the mechanics of running. During the 50-minute class each participant completes their own program whilst also having the opportunity to socialise with other participants in the group. The classes are run by our exercise physiologists and physiotherapists who have a passion for running and retuning to running. Prior to attending the group, a 1:1 assessment with the group therapist is required. Reviews are also completed on a 3-4 monthly basis to review your progress and develop your program.
Pilates class:
Our Pilates class is a low-impact class suitable for a range of participants. The focus is on improving core, upper and lower limb strength, along with stabilising the muscles of the body. The group exercises can be adjusted and tailored specifically to you throughout the class; therefore, it is suitable for a range of conditions. The class is a great way to be active in a social setting.
Prior to attending the group, a 1:1 assessment with the group therapist is required. Reviews are also completed on a 3-4 monthly basis to review your progress and develop your program.
Balance class:
Neurological Rehabilitation Group runs a balance group that is suitable for any diagnosis that results in balance difficulties. The class is specifically designed to improve balance, improve strength and reduce falls risk. The class is a group setting; however, exercises can be tailored to individual needs. The class is a great way to exercise in a social setting; whilst also being in a safe environment and supported by our therapist. The 50 minutes class is run by our physiotherapists.
Telehealth classes
At Neurological Rehabilitation Group we offer two telehealth classes: Parkinson’s and Pilates. Both 50-minutes classes are delivered online by one of our physiotherapists or exercise physiologists. Both classes are set up to allow people to exercise safely at home; whilst still working towards their goals.
Prior to attending the telehealth group, a 1:1 assessment with the group therapist is required. Reviews are also completed on a 3-4 monthly basis to review your progress and develop your program.
