EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY

Our highly trained team of exercise physiologists all have experience in managing neurological conditions and are dedicated to improving patient outcomes. Specialising in clinical exercise, our exercise physiologists are trained to prescribe personalised exercise interventions designed to enhance function, mobility, and overall well-being for those with acute, progressive and acquired neurological conditions. Exercise has been demonstrated to support symptom management and may help slow the progression of certain degenerative neurological disorders. At Neurological Rehabilitation Group, our exercise physiology services include individualised assessments and sessions, home visits, and group classes, all tailored to address each patient's individual needs.

Upon your initial visit to Neuro Rehab for an exercise physiology consultation, you will undergo a one-on-one assessment with one of our exercise physiologists. This assessment is designed to evaluate your goals, functional mobility, and impairments within a supportive environment, where family members or support persons are welcome to participate in the process to facilitate your progress. Based on the assessment, we will create a tailored treatment plan to address your goals and impairments. This plan may involve ongoing individual appointments, participation in group classes, or the development of a personalised home or gym exercise program.

All our exercise physiologists participate in monthly clinical supervision with a senior team member, including double sessions. This process guarantees senior oversight, providing an additional layer of expertise to support our patient’s rehabilitation. Additionally, our exercise physiology team collaborates closely with our physiotherapists, often conducting joint therapy sessions and engaging in team meetings to optimise patient outcomes. Our physiologists also commit to regular professional development through courses from the Exercise and Sports Science Association and other internal and external training opportunities, ensuring that we continue to deliver evidence-based services to our patients.

Group Exercise

Our team of exercise physiologists are highly skilled in leading our Fitness Classes. These classes accommodate up to six participants who each follow an individualised exercise program in an engaging and supportive environment for 50 minutes. Before joining a fitness class, you will undergo a one-on-one assessment with one of our exercise physiologists to develop a tailored exercise program. During group sessions, you will receive support from your exercise physiologist, who will assist with exercise setup and ensure that exercises are adjusted and progressed appropriately under their expert guidance.

During these classes you will have access to our purpose-built gyms allowing access to a wide variety of equipment designed to support your therapy goals.

Community Gym Programs

Engaging in your rehabilitation program at a community gym may initially seem daunting, and expert support is essential. We recognise the importance of being able to exercise close to home and in your local community. Our Exercise Physiologists are highly skilled in creating individualised gym programs for your local gym, assisting you in identifying suitable equipment and navigating the gym environment. If your chosen gym is within our catchment area, one of our exercise physiologists can typically develop your gym program in a single session with subsequent reviews based on your individual needs and goals.
